Almost, but not precisely so! While both cities are famous for their rights, the two provide distinct experiences. Cairo is the center stage of Egypt’s never-ceasing civilization and one can see the Pyramids of Giza or the Egyptian Museum, among other others. Alexandria, however, features a somewhat different empirical history with sites such as the Catacombs of Kom El-Shoqafa, Pompey’s Pillar, and the Library of Alexandria. They each have a history to tell, which is why they are both interesting places to go to.

Cairo and Alexandria are approximately 220 kilometers (137 miles) apart. A journey between the two cities typically takes around 2.5 to 3 hours by car, depending on traffic. This makes Alexandria the perfect day trip or a relaxing extension to your Cairo itinerary.
