Wadi El Rayan is a protected area in Egypt overseen by the Ministry of Environmental Affairs. Coptic sources referred to it as a salt lake.

📍 Karanis
Karanis was an ancient agricultural town in the northeast corner of Faiyum. Archaeologists estimated Karanis had a peak population of 4000 people. Augustus restored productivity in the area by cleaning up canals and dikes.
📍 Qasr Qarun
Experts believe this temple was built during the Ptolemaic era. The temple, made of yellow limestone, is mostly intact, although some parts have been restored and reinforced. No inscriptions exist to help date it more precisely.
📍 Mudawara Mountain
Mudawara Mountain is near Wadi El Rayyan Road, south of Al Fayyum Lake, about 150 km from Cairo. You can park on the road or drive across the desert to reach it.
📍 Wadi El-Hitan
The Wadi El-Hitan site has well-preserved fossils of early animals like sharks, crocodiles, turtles, and rays. The high concentration of fossils allows for a better understanding of the environment making it a heritage site.
